S&P Global ESG Ratings Europe Limited* (“SPGE ESG REL”) is committed to maintaining the quality, integrity, and transparency of its ESG Ratings. External stakeholders, including rated entities, issuers, users of ESG Ratings, and other interested parties, may submit a Complaint if they have reasoned concerns about an ESG Rating, the data used, or the application of the relevant methodology. Complaints may be submitted to S1ClientComplaints@spglobal.com. 

Complaints relate to:

  • The data sources used in an ESG Rating
  • Factual errors or mistakes
  • The application of the rating methodology
  • Whether an ESG Rating appropriately reflects the rated entity or the issuer of the rated item.

Complaints should include sufficient information to support investigation.

General inquiries, information requests, or methodology questions are not complaints and should be directed to the relevant S&P Global contact.

SPGE ESG REL will review, investigate, and resolve complaints promptly, in accordance with its and applicable regulatory requirements, including Regulation (EU) 2024/3005.

Complaints Handling Mechanism

  • SPGE ESG REL maintains a complaint handling policy by which users, rated entities and other stakeholders may submit complaints regarding assessments and related methodologies
  • Complaints will be acknowledged promptly
  • The Compliance team investigating complaints will be independent from the ESG rating activity or determination at issue
  • SPGE ESG REL will seek to investigate and resolve complaints as quickly as possible. In most cases, a written response will be provided within 30 business days
  • Complaints involving fraud, misconduct, conflicts of interestor legal risk may be escalated to Legal, Compliance, or other appropriate functions.
  • SPGE ESG REL Records of complaints and related investigations are retained in accordance with applicable requirements
  • After receiving S&P ESG Ratings’ response, the complainant may provide additional information and request further review. If no additional information or response is received within 25 business days, the complaint may be closed
  • Complaints may also be reviewed periodically through internal governance processes to identify themes, trends, and potential risks
