Regulation is shaping the sustainability agenda and changing the way companies do business across different jurisdictions. Since the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) issued its first two global sustainability standards in June 2023, over 35 jurisdictions around the world have adopted the standards or stated their intention to adopt the standards in the future.
The ISSB is now looking at developing standards related to biodiversity, ecosystems and ecosystem services (BEES) as well as human capital. The loss of biodiversity and the degradation of ecosystems are occurring at an unprecedented pace. Research from S&P Global Sustainable1 shows that 85% of the world's largest companies have a significant dependency on nature, highlighting the urgent need for greater transparency around nature-related risks and opportunities.
