"Beet pulp is an energy-intensive raw material that allows biogas complexes to work year-round. These are large, powerful complexes, because a lot of pulp is produced in sugar factories - 80% of the beet mass," Epstein said. "From 1 mt of pressed pulp, it is possible to get 100-105 cu m of biogas."

Epstein also noted that installing 100 kW of capacity is worth Eur800,000 ($932,679), a rate that is not worthwhile for small investors, suggesting that the minimum capacity for such complexes should be 1 MW to make it worthwhile for investors, according to the report.

Recycled sugar pulp can also be used as an organic fertilizer, or as a feed additive.
