Platts launches SAF US Gulf Coast and Brazil import parity assessments Oct. 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has launched daily US Gulf Coast sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) assessments and daily Brazil SAF import parity price (IPP) assessments, effective Oct. 1, 2026.

Platts has observed increasing SAF supply and trade activity in the US Gulf Coast, as well as evolving regulatory frameworks and decarbonization initiatives supporting SAF adoption across Latin America. The new assessments provide additional transparency into these developing markets.

The assessments reflect SAF meeting ASTM D7566 specifications for Synthesized Paraffinic Kerosene produced from Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA-SPK), as defined in its Annex A2. They reflect material with a density of 760 kilograms/cubic meter at 15 degrees Celsius. Feedstocks reflected include vegetable oils, waste oils, fats, tallow, and similar materials. SAF produced using palm oil feedstocks will not be reflected.

US Gulf Coast SAF

The USGC waterborne assessments reflect neat HEFA-SPK sustainable aviation fuel on an FOB basis, loading from Beaumont/Port Arthur, Lake Charles, or the greater Houston area, which includes Texas City, Deer Park, Pasadena, and Houston. Cargoes loading from Corpus Christi, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Pascagoula may also be considered and normalized to the primary assessed locations where appropriate.

The assessments are published as an outright assessment and as a premium to the Platts Jet Kero 54 USGC Waterborne assessment (PJABM00). The assessments exclude the Clean Fuel Production Credit and D4 biomass-based diesel Renewable Identification Number values.

The assessments reflect the following specifications:

Assessment Biofuel Symbol Oil symbol Incoterm Timing Volume Unit of Measure
SAF (H-S) FOB US Gulf Coast (credits detached)

SAFPC00

SAFMC00

FOB Five to 25 days forward Minimum volume of 1,000 barrels US cents/gal
SAF (H-S) FOB US Gulf Coast premium (credits detached)

SAFPD00

SAFMD00

FOB Five to 25 days forward Minimum volume of 1,000 barrels US cents/gal

The assessments consider bids, offers, and trades reported during the day and reflect a 13:30 Houston time market close and follow the US publishing schedule. In the absence of sufficient spot market information, Platts may consider values derived from related markets, including netbacks from the existing Platts SAF CA assessment (SAFCA00) using prevailing freight rates and other relevant market differentials, in line with Platts methodology.

Brazil SAF import parity price (IPP)

The Brazil IPP assessments reflect the price of neat HEFA-SPK SAF delivered into Santos, Brazil, published as an outright assessment and as a premium to the Platts Jet A-1 IPP Santos assessment (BJADD00). The IPP is calculated using the average of the latest three published Platts SAF FOB US Gulf Coast assessments (SAFPC00), including the assessment published on the day of calculation, and adjusted to a delivered basis using prevailing freight rates, including the Platts Clean USGC-Brazil 38,000 mt Medium Range tanker assessment (TCAFR00).

During the first two publication days following the launch, when fewer than three historical SAF FOB US Gulf Coast assessments are available, Platts will derive the three-day average SAF FOB US Gulf Coast value using netback calculations from California.

Additional adjustments include demurrage, insurance, transit losses, storage costs, and any value adjustments necessary to account for specification differences. Applicable import costs, duties, and tariffs may also be considered where relevant.

The assessment specifications are as follows:
