Platts proposes to launch SAF US Gulf Coast and Brazil import parity assessments, effective Oct. 1
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, proposes to launch daily assessments for US Gulf Coast sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and daily Brazil SAF import parity prices, effective Oct. 1, 2026.
Platts has observed increasing SAF supply and trade activity in the US Gulf Coast, as well as evolving regulatory frameworks and decarbonization initiatives supporting SAF adoption across Latin America.
The proposed assessments would reflect SAF meeting ASTM D7566 specifications for Synthesized Paraffinic Kerosene produced from Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA-SPK), as defined in Annex A2. The assessments would reflect material with a density of 760 kg/cu m at 15 degrees Celsius. Feedstocks reflected would include vegetable oils, waste oils, fats, tallow and similar materials. SAF produced using palm oil feedstocks would not be reflected.
US Gulf Coast SAF
Platts proposes to assess neat HEFA-SPK sustainable aviation fuel on a FOB basis. The proposed assessments would be published as both an outright price and as a premium to the Platts Jet Kero 54 USGC Waterborne assessment (PJABM00). USGC waterborne assessments would reflect FOB loading from Beaumont/Port Arthur, Lake Charles, and the greater Houston area, which includes Texas City, Deer Park, Pasadena and Houston. Cargoes loading from Corpus Christi, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Pascagoula may also be considered and normalized to the primary assessed locations where appropriate.
The proposed specifications would be as follows:
| Assessment | Incoterm | Timing |
Volume |
UOM |
| FOB SAF (H-S) US Gulf Coast (credits detached) | FOB | 5 to 25 days forward | Minimum volume of 1,000 barrels | Cents/Gal |
|
FOB SAF (H-S) US Gulf Coast premium (credits detached) |
FOB | 5 to 25 days forward | Minimum volume of 1,000 barrels | Cents/Gal |
The proposed assessments would consider bids, offers and trades reported during the Market on Close assessment process. The assessments would reflect a 13:30 Houston time market close and would follow the US publishing schedule. In the absence of sufficient spot market information, Platts may consider values derived from related markets, including a netback from the existing Platts SAF CA assessment (SAFCA00) using prevailing freight and other relevant market differentials, in line with Platts methodology. The assessments would be exclusive of the Clean Fuel Production Credit and D4 biomass-based diesel Renewable Identification Number.
Brazil SAF import parity prices
The proposed prices would reflect the import parity price of neat HEFA-SPK SAF delivered into Santos, Brazil, published as both an outright price and as a premium to Platts Jet A-1 IPP Santos assessment (BJADD00).
The import parity calculation would be based on the average of the previous three published Platts SAF FOB US Gulf Coast assessments, adjusted to a delivered basis using prevailing freight rates and the Platts Clean USGC-Brazil 38kt MR assessment (TCAFR00). Additional adjustments include demurrage, insurance, transit losses, storage costs, and any value adjustments necessary to account for differences in specifications. Applicable import costs, duties and tariffs may also be taken into account where relevant.
The proposed specifications would be as follows:
| Assessment | Timing | Volumes | UOM |
|
SAF (H-S) IPP Santos |
5 to 25 days forward |
Minimum volume of 1,000 barrels |
Cents/Gal, with conversions to $/Barrel and Real/cu m |
|
SAF (H-S) IPP Santos premium |
5 to 25 days forward |
Minimum volume of 1,000 barrels |
Cents/Gal, with conversions to $/Barrel and Real/cu m |
The assessments would reflect a 13:30 Houston time market close and follow the US publishing schedule.
