Platts launches Dutch Advanced Ethanol FOB ARA assessments, Aug. 3

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, has launched daily Dutch Advanced Ethanol FOB ARA barge assessments, effective Aug. 3, 2026.

This reflects increased market interest in ethanol eligible for Dutch Advanced renewable transport compliance use.

Platts assesses a premium to the Ethanol T2 FOB Rotterdam paper market, as well as an outright value, both published in €/cubic meter, with conversions to US$ and €/metric ton.

The assessments reflect undenatured fuel ethanol meeting Platts T2 FOB Rotterdam product purity specification requirements as listed in the specification guide, but produced from feedstocks qualifying as advanced in the Netherlands, including feedstocks and definitions listed in:

• Annex IX A of the Renewable Energy Directive
• Appendix 5 of the Netherlands Energy for Transport Regulation
• Annex IV of the Implementing Regulation

Material categorized as Annex IX-B under the Renewable Energy Directive is not reflected.

Details of the assessments are as follows:

The Dutch Advanced Ethanol assessments reflect a minimum of 9.4g of CO2e per megajoule, equivalent to a minimum greenhouse gas savings of 90% versus a fossil-fuel comparator of 94g CO2e/MJ under the European Commission's Renewable Energy Directive (RED II/III) framework.

The assessments reflect a T2 duty-paid FOB Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp basis, with a volume of 1,000 metric tons. Other volumes will be considered, but may be normalized to reflect the basis volume.

The Dutch Advanced ethanol assessments reflect an any-month loading barge. The assessments roll from front month (M1) to reflect loading in the next month (M2), eight clear working days before the end of the current month.

For example, as the assessments launched in August when M1 is September, from Aug. 3-17, Platts reflects material loading in September, and the premium is published against the September paper. On Aug. 19, eight clear working days before the end of the month, the assessments roll to reflect loading in October, and the premium is published relative to the October paper.

The launch follows the proposal and decision notes published May 20 and June 22, respectively.
