Platts to include CAR-certified biochar credits in US Biochar assessments from Feb. 2, 2026

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, will include biochar credits certified under the Climate Action Reserve, or CAR, in its Biochar, US carbon credit current and year one price assessments, effective Feb. 2, 2026.

This change responds to the growing number of US projects expected to come online in 2026 under the Climate Action Reserve's US & Canada Biochar Protocol.

Additionally, this change is in response to market feedback on the inclusion of these credits in the Platts US Biochar assessment.

Platts initially proposed the above change in late 2025 via a subscriber note here.

As a result, the Platts Biochar US price assessment will reflect carbon credits sourced from US-based industrial projects that certify their carbon credits by the following registries and standards: Puro.earth, Isometric, Carbon Standards International, and CAR.
