Cement sales volumes at 5.05 mil mt

Net profit down 3.2% amid fuel cost pressure

Infrastructure spending supports demand

India's Birla Corp. sold 5.05 million metric tons of cement in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27 (April-June), up 5% year over year, supported by stronger trade sales across Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan, the company said in a statement seen by Platts on July 29.

Cement segment revenue rose 7.4% year over year to 25.15 billion Indian rupees ($292 million), while consolidated revenue increased 7.8% to 26.46 billion rupees, the company added.

However, consolidated net profit fell 3.2% year over year to 1.16 billion rupees, as higher power and fuel costs weighed on margins, Birla said.

The company said cement demand improved during the quarter, supported by infrastructure spending, though pricing remained under pressure amid intense competition.

Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, assessed cement (ASTM type I) FOB Vietnam at $39/mt on July 23, unchanged from the previous week. Platts also assessed cement clinker FOB Vietnam at $32.50/mt, down from $32.75/mt over the same period.
