Year-to-date shipments down 3.3% through July
Clinker production steady in July, down 6.9% year to date
Cement shipments across the United States and Puerto Rico rose to an estimated 9.99 million metric tons in July 2025, according to newly released data from the US Geological Survey (USGS). This marks a 7.1% increase over July 2024, driven largely by demand for Portland and blended cement, including imports.
Despite the strong July showing, USGS figures reveal that total shipments for the year through July reached 57.0 million mt —a 3.3% decrease from the same period last year.
The leading producing states for Portland and blended cement in July were Texas, Missouri, California, Florida, and Alabama. On the consumption side, Texas, California, Florida, Ohio, and North Carolina accounted for 38.4% of shipments that month.
Clinker production, essential for cement manufacturing, was steady at 6.64 million mt in July, but year-to-date output fell 6.9% to 37.5 million mt.
Imports of cement and clinker for July totaled 2.49 million mt, nearly unchanged from the same period last year, although overall imports for the year declined by 1.4%.
