Facility expected to resume operations in early 2026
Over 1 million blocks stockpiled to ensure supply
New mixer to reduce energy use and carbon emissions
Cemex UK is set to enhance its building products facility in Dove Holes, Derbyshire, with a significant investment aimed at modernizing operational processes and improving its concrete solutions, the company said in a statement Nov. 25.
The facility is currently shut for the installation and replacement of machinery, with plans to reopen in early 2026.
Cemex said it has stockpiled over 1 million square meters of blocks from its key product range at Dove Holes to ensure continuous supply for customers through the transition period.
"We are pleased to be investing in our Dove Holes Building Products facility, which will see the implementation of new and advanced technologies," Sam Culshaw, national sales manager at Cemex, said. "This crucial investment will contribute to making the site's processes more efficient and aligned with our decarbonization targets, while enabling us to produce higher-quality concrete blocks that are closely tailored to the requirements of all our customers, including in size and performance."
As part of the investment, Cemex will upgrade its concrete block press and install a new concrete batching mixer to improve efficiency. The new mixer is expected to consume less energy and generate lower carbon emissions, in line with Cemex's commitment to carbon neutrality. To further support sustainable operations, a water recycling system will be integrated.
This investment marks the second and final phase of enhancements at the Dove Holes site, following the introduction of innovative Void packs in July 2025.
Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, last assessed the CEMDEX Turkey price, reflecting Ordinary Portland Cement CEM I 42.5R (bulk), at $53.50/mt FOB on Nov. 20.
