US DATA: EIA says 4-week average for US crude imports at lowest level since TMX came online

US imports of Canadian crude averaged 3.660 million b/d for the week ending Oct. 25, US Energy Information Administration data showed Oct. 30.

This was a 59,000 b/d decrease from the previous week and a 175,000 b/d increase from the same period last year.

US imports of Canadian crude over the four-week period ending Oct. 25 averaged 3.604 million b/d, the lowest level since imports averaged 3.597 million b/d for the four-week period ending May 3. This represents the weakest four-week average for Canadian imports since the TMX pipeline came online in May.

Market sources credit the recent decrease in US Imports of Canadian crude to tighter Canadian crude supply.

“For sure, it does relate to tighter supply, also Whiting and Detroit [refineries] were down for maintenance, Enbridge mainline was unportioned for two months," one source said.
