Platts proposes to launch daily R-PET food grade pellets FOB Southeast Asia assessment Feb 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is proposing to launch a new daily FOB Southeast Asia recycled polyethylene terephthalate food grade pellets assessment, effective Feb. 1, 2024.

Demand for R-PET pellets is set to grow over the next decade as governments and producers look to mitigate the environmental impact of plastic waste, with current shortfalls in feedstock and production capacities in export destinations such as Europe set to drive demand for Southeast Asian resin.

Details of the proposed R-PET food grade pellets assessment are as follows:

Product Specifications:

Color: clear

Feedstock origin: post-consumer feedstock

Intrinsic viscosity: Minimum 0.80

Assessment specifications:

Basis: FOB Southeast Asia

Cargo size: 20-200 mt

Loading period: 3-21 days

Other parcels with varying specifications may be normalized to the above stated standard.

The assessment, expressed in $/mt, would be published daily in line with the Singapore publication schedule. The assessment would reflect the spot value at 16:30 SGT and would be based on firm bids, offers, trades, and indicative values as well as any other data deemed relevant to the assessment process.
