Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, seeks market feedback on the future of its global LNG freight route cost assessments coverage.
Platts is inviting feedback regarding:
A) Expansion of the Platts coverage to include assessments for two-stroke vessels
B) Potential launch of carbon-inclusive freight cost assessments for all routes that involve at least one port in the European Union
Platts publishes daily spot charter rates for Tri-Fuel Diesel Electric (TFDE) and two-stroke (MEGI or X-DF) LNG carrier assessments under the benchmark name Atlantic LNG Day Rates (ATDR) and Asia Pacific LNG Day Rates (APDR).
At present, Platts publishes global LNG freight route cost assessments solely for Tri-Fuel Diesel Electric (TFDE) carriers. Platts understands that two-stroke (MEGI or X-DF) carriers account for a significant portion of trading in the freight routes.
Hence, market participants are invited to provide feedback on expanding the current range of global LNG freight route cost assessments to also include two-stroke carriers.
Furthermore, the phased-in inclusion of shipping in the EU Emissions Trading Systems (EU ETS) has increased the costs associated with visiting ports within the European Union and Platts understands that a significant portion of trading activity in the LNG freight markets is being conducted as carbon-inclusive.
Market participants are also invited to provide feedback on enhancing the methodology of current global LNG freight route cost assessments to include EU ETS carbon-related costs.
Please send any feedback, comments, or questions by Jan. 10, 2025 to shipping@spglobal.com and pricegroup@spglobal.com.
