Following industry feedback, Platts proposes discontinuing the New Orleans to Alexandria Supramax grains freight assessment basis 50,000 mt, effective March 1, 2018.
Platts understands that trade from New Orleans to the Mediterranean began in earnest following drought in France in 2015. Since that time, however, the route has seen a significant reduction in volume and become illiquid.
This assessment appears in the Dry Freight Wire pdf and under the code GRNOE00.
