Platts proposes to define carbon intensity for European biomethane GO assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodities Insights, is seeking feedback on a proposal to define the carbon intensity (CI) value of its European biomethane GO assessments to more accurately reflect the quality of the certificates being traded.

Platts is proposing that assessments for current non-crop European biomethane GO assessments to reflect a CI range of +25.00 g Co2e/MJ to +0.00 g CO2e/MJ, reflective of the CI range for waste biomethane feedstocks

This proposal affects assessments for certificates in the UK, the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany for the current-year and year-ahead beginning Jan. 2, 2023.

Platts invites all questions and feedback to Platts_Carbon@spglobal.com, power@spglobal.com and pricegroup@spglobal.com by Dec. 30, 2022.
