Platts clarifies T2 Ethanol FOB Rotterdam assessment reflects sustainability criteria of RED

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, wishes to clarify that its T2 Ethanol FOB Rotterdam assessment reflects ethanol which is compliant with the sustainability and certification provisions of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED).

As such, Platts T2 Ethanol FOB Rotterdam assessment reflects the latest expectations on compliance with the Union Database for Biofuels (UDB), as communicated by the European Commission.

The UDB is a digital platform designed to improve the traceability of gaseous and liquid fuels in the transport sector, and was originally legislated as mandatory to use by Nov. 21, 2024, in Article 31a of Directive (EU) 2023/2413 often referred to as RED III.

Based on the latest communication from the European Commission, a revised date for mandatory use of the UDB will be communicated in due course.

Platts will continue to monitor expectations for compliance with RED and will communicate any updates as they relate to its methodology through subscriber notes, as required.
