SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts amends sulfur limit in Asian, African MGO/MDO assessments to 0.5%

S&P Global Platts has lowered the sulfur limit to 0.5% for certain delivered marine gasoil and marine diesel oil assessments in Asia and Africa that previously reflected higher sulfur standards, effective December 2, 2019.

The change comes ahead of the planned introduction of a new 0.5% sulfur limit in marine fuels by the International Maritime Organization starting January 1, 2020.

Platts first proposed the changes September 9, 2019: http://plts.co/1u3e30pY6hS The changes are applicable to the below-listed assessments in Asia and Africa that previously reflected 1.5% sulfur standards for MGO and 2% for MDO.

The assessments continue to reflect specifications conforming to DMA ISO 8217:2010 for MGO and DMB ISO 8217:2010 for MDO, but with sulfur limit of maximum 0.5%.

Following the amendments, the names of these assessments have changed to reflect 0.5% sulfur, from the previous 1.5% or 2%.
