SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts to change Russian Baltic, Poland Baltic coal assessments to 6,000 kcal/kg NAR

Following market consultation, Platts plans to change the calorific value basis of its weekly 90-day Russian Baltic 6,400 kcal/kg GAR and Poland Baltic 6,300 kcal/kg GAR thermal coal price assessments to 6,000 kcal/kg NAR. Platts has determined that the new calorific value is closer to the majority of thermal coal bought by European buyers, particularly into Northwest Europe, and believes that this should be reflected in these two assessments. The proposed changes will take effect on January 2, 2015. For methodology details, please contact the coal desk at coal@platts.com with a cc to pricegroup@platts.com
