Platts proposes publishing European Biomethane Guarantee of Origin assessments

S&P Global Platts is seeking feedback on a proposal to launch daily European Biomethane Guarantee of Origin (GO) price assessments.

This follows a rising trend in cross-border trade and liquidity in the biomethane GOs sector within Europe. Platts proposes to initially launch daily biomethane GO price assessments for non-crop certificates for the UK, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark for current-year and year-ahead generation beginning Jan. 31. These assessments would be published in Eur/MWh for Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark. The UK assessments will be published in GBP/MWh and Eur/MWh. Assessments would also be converted into their Eur/tCO2e equivalent.

These assessments will reflect the value of biomethane GOs at the 16:30 London time market close. Platts invites all questions and feedback to Platts_Carbon@spglobal.com, power@spglobal.com and pricegroup@spglobal.com by December 31, 2021.
