November 17, 2025
Platts has launched FuelEU maritime CO2 abatement assessments that exclude EU ETS costs, effective Nov. 17, 2025.
The new assessments complement the existing FuelEU CO2 abatement assessments -- which are inclusive of EU ETS costs -- by quantifying the cost of emissions abatement under FuelEU maritime legislation, from combusting biofuels in place of conventional fossil fuels.
The assessments have the following descriptions and symbols for both daily and monthly averages:
| Assessment | Symbol | Monthly Average |
| FuelEU CO2 Abatement UCOME Rotterdam (VLSFO) EU ETS exclusive | MGAMB00 | MGAMB03 |
| FuelEU CO2 Abatement UCOME Rotterdam (MGO) EU ETS exclusive | MGAMA00 | MGAMA03 |
| FuelEU CO2 Abatement B30 Rotterdam (VLSFO) EU ETS exclusive | MGAMC00 | MGAMC03 |
| FuelEU CO2 Abatement UCOME Rotterdam (VLSFO) EU ETS exclusive (Mirror) | MGAME00 | MGAME03 |
| FuelEU CO2 Abatement UCOME Rotterdam (MGO) EU ETS exclusive (Mirror) | MGAMD00 | MGAMD03 |
| FuelEU CO2 Abatement B30 Rotterdam (VLSFO) EU ETS exclusive (Mirror) | MGAMF00 | MGAMF03 |
Platts B30 Rotterdam biobunker assessments reflect a marine fuel blend of 30% used cooking oil methyl ester and 70% very low sulfur fuel oil.
The FuelEU maritime CO2 abatement assessments are expressed in terms of $/mtCO2e, allowing for standardized comparisons across different fuel types. The emissions factors for Well-to-Wake emissions are calculated in accordance with regulation (EU) 2023/1805 of the European Parliament.
For UCOME, the default emissions value is 14.9 gCO2eq/MJ under the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED).
The assessments are published on the following fixed pages for daily assessments: PGB2050, PGA2051, PRF2050, and the following for monthly averages: PGB2052, PGA2053, PRF2052.
They are also published in the Bunkerwire and Bunkerwire Monthly reports, along with the Biofuelscan.
All FuelEU CO2 abatement assessments mirror symbols are published in the following fixed pages for daily assessments: CMA2500, ETA2500, and the following for monthly averages: CMA2501, ETA2501. The mirror symbols also appear in the Carbon Markets Daily report.
