Platts proposes to launch daily refined POME FOB Indonesia assessment, Feb. 2

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is proposing to launch a daily assessment for refined palm oil mill effluent (POME), FOB Indonesia basis, effective Feb. 2, 2026.

Indonesia is the largest producer of POME globally, producing around 2 million metric tons per year, according to S&P Global Commodity Insights. To prioritize domestic consumption, the country has temporarily banned the export of crude POME since Jan. 8, 2025. This export restriction has increased demand for refined POME, which is crude POME that has undergone treatment processes to remove impurities.

The proposed refined POME FOB Indonesia assessment would reflect a free fatty acid (FFA) value of a maximum of 5%, a moisture & impurities (M&I) content of a maximum of 1%, a total fatty matter of a minimum of 95%, a total metal content of a maximum of 150 ppm and an iodine value of a minimum 50 g I 2 /100g.

The assessment would reflect cargoes loading during a 45-day strip covering three half-months, starting 15 days forward from the date of publication. The assessment laycan would roll over to the next 45 days on the 1st and 16th of each month, or the first publishing day after if they fall on weekends or a public holiday.

For example, on Feb. 1, 2026, the Platts refined POME FOB Indonesia assessment would reflect cargoes loading Feb. 16 to March 31, representing H2 February, H1 March and H2 March. On Feb. 16, 2026, the assessment would roll to reflect cargoes loading in H1 March, H2 March and H1 April.

The assessment would reflect a cargo size of 1,000-5,000 mt, on a free on board (FOB) Dumai and Belawan, Indonesia basis. The assessment would also consider cargoes loading in other ports in Indonesia, including Kuala Tanjung, Tanjung Perak and Tanjung Priok, and normalizing back to the basis locations of Dumai and Belawan. Other volumes may also be considered and normalized back to the stated volume specifications.

The assessment would reflect POME that adheres to the ISCC certification scheme, in compliance with the EU's Renewable Energy Directive or RED requirements.

The proposed assessment would have the following specifications:

Assessment

Specifications

Volume

Timing

Refined POME FOB Indonesia

-FFA maximum of 5%

-M&I maximum of 1%

-TFM minimum of 95%

-Total metal content maximum of 150 ppm

-Iodine minimum of 50 g I 2 /100g

1,000–5,000 mt

Loading 15-60 days forward, rollover on 1st and 16th of each month

The assessment would be published in US dollar/mt.

The proposed daily assessment would be published on Platts Biofuels Alert pages 2400 and 2402, in the daily Platts Biofuelscan and the Weekly Biomass-Based Diesel Report.

The proposed daily refined POME FOB Indonesia assessment would reflect a 6:00 pm Penang time market close and follow the Penang publishing schedule.
