Platts launching new HDG steel price series based on HRC substrate in the US

Following market feedback, S&P Global Platts has decided to launch a new hot-dip galvanized steel coil price series, based on a hot-rolled coil substrate. The existing price index will continue to be published, restating the specification, based on a cold-rolled coil substrate. The new price series will be effective Nov. 2, 2020.

The new daily price will reflect HDG coil of new manufacture with chemical and mechanical tolerances are based on ASTM A 653, CS Type B, hot-rolled substrate, excluding zinc-based coating extra. The price will be assessed as a volume weighted average, according to the TSI index methodology.

The new price will be reflective of a minimum order size of 100 st for coil with minimum thickness of 0.056" and a width of 48-72". Delivery time would be between four-12 weeks with payment terms net 30 days after delivery.

The new index will be named Platts TSI US HDG-HRC EXW Indiana (AHDGA00) and include a separate monthly average calculation (AHDGA030).

At the same time, Platts will clarify specifications on the existing daily HDG price symbol (ATSIA00) and accompanying monthly average (ATSIA03) to reflect a cold-rolled substrate and provide a new name: Platts TSI US HDG-CRC EXW Indiana.

The index will reflect HGD coils of new manufacture with chemical and mechanical tolerances based on ASTM A 653, CS Type B, cold-rolled substrate, excluding zinc-based coating weight extra. The price will be assessed as a volume weighted average, according to the TSI index methodology.

The price will be reflective of a minimum order size of 100 st for coil with minimum thickness of 0.028" up to 0.086"and a width of 48-72". Delivery time would be between four-12 weeks with payment terms net 30 days after delivery.

Both existing and the new prices will be published in the Steel Business Briefing, Steel Price Report and World Steel Review, on the Platts real-time metals alert on fixed page PMA/STL 3942, MW/STL 1206, in the Platts Market Center and in the Platts price database.
