Platts to continue publication of European renewable diesel cost of production prices

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will not discontinue its RD Cost of Production (UCO) NWE prices, originally proposed for Jan. 2, 2025.

Market feedback has shown interest in maintaining the publication of the Northwest Europe production cost assessments, alongside market-based price assessments for European renewable diesel. Platts will look to update the inputs and calculations in the model to reflect the latest associated costs in the production process. Notification of changes will be communicated via subscriber notes.

Platts launched production cost assessments in March 2020, followed by two RD price assessments May 1, which focus on feedstocks in Annex IX-A and IX-B of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED). Further details can be found here: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/050124-platts-launches-daily-market-based-european-renewable-diesel-assessments.

The cost of production assessments are currently published in Platts daily Biofuelscan, Platts weekly Biomass-Based Diesel report, Platts Connect and on the Platts Biofuels Alert service and under the following symbols:

Description Symbol M. Avg

RD Cost of Production (UCO) NWE $/mt HVNWD00 HVNWD03

RD Cost of Production (UCO) NWE $/bbl HVNWE00 HVNWE03

RD Cost of Production (UCO) NWE Eur/mt HVNWF00 HVNWF03

These discontinuations were initially proposed on Sept. 21 in a subscriber note linked here: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/092024-platts-proposes-to-discontinue-european-renewable-diesel-cost-of-production-assessments.
