SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts to amend sulfur limit in Asia, Africa MGO/MDO assessments to 0.5%

S&P Global Platts will lower the sulfur limit to 0.5% for certain delivered marine gasoil and marine diesel oil assessments in Asia and Africa that currently reflect higher sulfur standards, effective December 2, 2019.

The change comes ahead of the planned introduction of a new 0.5% sulfur limit in marine fuels by the International Maritime Organization starting January 1, 2020.

The change will be applicable to the below-listed assessments in Asia and Africa that currently reflect 1.5% sulfur standards for MGO and 2% for MDO. The assessments will continue to reflect specifications conforming to DMA ISO 8217:2010 for MGO and DMB ISO 8217:2010 for MDO but with sulfur limit of maximum 0.5%.

Following the change, the names of these assessment will change to reflect 0.5% sulfur, from the existing 1.5% or 2%.
