Platts proposes discontinuation of C+F Japan gasoil premium/discount assessment Feb. 1, 2021

S&P Global Platts is proposing to discontinue its C+F Japan gasoil premium/discount assessment from Feb. 1, 2021

The proposed discontinuation reflects a change in trade flows and a lack of spot market activity on a C+F Japan basis in this market.

Gasoil imports into Japan have been declining over the years -- totaling 592,171 mt in 2019, down from 612,357 mt in 2018 -- according to data from Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Meanwhile, over the same period, there has been a sharp increase in gasoil exports from Japan. In 2019, Japan exported 7.98 million mt of diesel, up 30% from 6.155 million mt in 2018, according to data from Petroleum Association of Japan.

The proposed discontinuation will affect the C+F Japan gasoil premium/discount daily assessment (AAWVG00) and the C+ F Japan gasoil premium/discount monthly average (AAWVG03).

These prices currently appear on Platts Global Alert fixed page 2430, in the Platts Asia Pacific/Arab Gulf Marketscan and in the Platts price database under the codes above.

Separately, Platts launched an FOB Japan 10 ppm sulfur gasoil cash differential starting on Oct.1, 2020. (http://plts.co/CunN30rdHS7) Platts previously discontinued its C+F Japan gasoil outright assessment on Oct. 1, 2018.
