Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is extending the feedback period for its proposal to launch a Premium Low Vol (PLV) hard coking coal FOB US netback calculation.
Platts is now inviting feedback by Nov. 3, 2023, and will update further following review.
Under the proposal, the daily price would calculate the netback from Platts PLV HCC CFR India basis Paradip (PLVHI00) to the US East Coast, using Platts Met Coal Dry Bulk Freight US-India (CDBUI00).
The new calculation would provide a reference for US export trade values into Asia markets, where Platts has observed growing spot trade, including an increasing market share for US coals.
Platts continues to publish its existing daily FOB US East Coast spot price assessments for Low Vol HCC, High Vol A and High Vol B hard coking coals, with assessment methodology and specifications unaffected by the proposal to publish a calculated US PLV netback.
Full details of the proposal are available in a subscriber note published Sept. 1: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/090123-platts-proposes-to-launch-daily-plv-coking-coal-fob-us-netback-calculation
