Platts amends locations for launch of monthly North America Gas Carbon Intensity calculations

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is amending the locations for which it will launch monthly North America gas carbon intensity calculations on Nov. 15.

The locations for which carbon intensity calculations will be published have been amended to:

  • AECO-C
  • Chicago city gates
  • Dawn
  • PG&E Malin
  • Eastern Gas, South
  • Waha
  • Kern River, Opal plant
  • NGPL Midcontinent

Platts continues to seek feedback on how best to bring transparency around the carbon intensity of other natural gas hubs in North America, beyond those the list above.

Platts previously announced it would launch carbon intensity calculations for 20 hubs and locations across North America on Oct. 4 in a subscriber note available here.

The CI for each location will be published in mtCO2e/MMBtu to reflect total greenhouse gas emissions per MMBtu of gas.

In addition, Platts will publish a cost of carbon for the CI calculations as a $/MMBtu equivalent using the Platts Carbon Removal Credit Assessment (CRC, ACRCA00). It will reflect the cost required to offset the GHG emissions using credits derived from natural or technological carbon capture.

Carbon intensity calculations and associated costs of carbon will be published on a monthly basis on the 15th of each month. If the 15th falls on a non-working day, the data will be published on the next working day.

The North America Carbon Intensity calculations and associated carbon costs shall be published in the following locations:

  • Platts Dimensions Pro/Platts Connect
  • Gas Daily
  • AGP (Americas Gas & Power)
  • ETA (Energy Transition Alert)
