Platts launches European unsubsidized waste biomethane guarantees of origin assessments Oct. 8

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has launched daily European unsubsidized waste biomethane guarantees of origin assessments, effective Oct. 8, 2025.

This launch reflects the increasing importance of the role that unsubsidized waste biomethane of EU origin plays in compliance markets across Europe, from road transportation markets to maritime, as well as future grid blending requirements. With compliance markets viewed as critical to future decarbonization efforts within Europe and beyond, unsubsidized waste biomethane certificates are expected to play a much larger role in the years ahead.

The new daily EUB assessments are for current-year and year-ahead vintages, reflecting the most competitive certified unsubsidized waste of European origin. The assessments also utilize a carbon intensity value definition of plus 20 g to plus 0 gCO2e/MJ and reflect a minimum trade volume of 5 GWh.

The EUB assessments reflect unsubsidized waste biomethane derived from Annex IX Part A (Annex 9a) feedstocks as defined by the European Commission in the Renewable Energy Directive in the link here .

The EUB assessments, and the corresponding monthly averages, are published in Eur/MWh.

The assessments are published on a 4:30 pm London timestamp and follow the UK holiday calendar.

The assessments can be found under the following symbol codes:
