Platts proposes to discontinue European renewable diesel cost of production assessments

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, proposes to discontinue its RD Cost of Production (UCO) NWE assessments, effective Jan. 2, 2025.

Platts has seen increasing liquidity in the European renewable diesel (HVO) spot market. This has led to the cost of production calculation becoming less relevant as a reflection of the RD (HVO) market.

As of May 1, 2024 Platts also launched price assessments for European renewable diesel, taking into account bids, offers, trades and other relevant information. The two RD price assessments focus on feedstocks in Annex IX-A and IX-B of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED). Further details can be found here: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/050124-platts-launches-daily-market-based-european-renewable-diesel-assessments.

Therefore Platts proposes to discontinue the cost of production prices for European RD/HVO that were originally launched in March 2020.

The proposed prices to be discontinued are currently published in Platts Biofuelscan and under the following symbols:

Description Symbol M. Avg
RD Cost of Production (UCO) NWE $/mt HVNWD00 HVNWD03
RD Cost of Production (UCO) NWE $/bbl HVNWE00 HVNWE03
RD Cost of Production (UCO) NWE Eur/mt HVNWF00 HVNWF03
