S&P Global Platts is proposing to use the daily Japan spot aluminum premium assessment (MMANA00) as a component to calculate its daily China All-In aluminum published prices in Yuan/mt (MMBAB00) and in $/mt (MMBAA00), beginning November 1, 2017. The China prices are currently using the weekly South Korean aluminum premium (MMAMX00) as a component for calculation. This would no longer be the case.
Preliminary market research shows that the Japan spot premium is the more recognized benchmark for aluminum trades in Asia, while the significance of the weekly South Korean spot premium has reduced. It is also more relevant to use a daily premium to calculate a daily price.
Should the change be finalized after further industry consultation, the final published China All-In price using the South Korean weekly premium will be on October 31, 2017.
