Platts to change CFR India phenol and acetone assessment delivery laycan effective Sept. 27

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will change the weekly CFR India phenol and acetone assessment to reflect cargoes delivered 30-45 days forward from the day of the assessment, effective Sept. 27, 2024, in line with market feedback received.

Platts is currently assessing phenol and acetone cargoes delivered 15-30 days forward from the day of the assessment.

Platts understands that CFR India phenol and acetone market usually specifies shipment/loading period of the cargoes during trade related discussions. Platts has observed that the bulk of the phenol imported into India come from Thailand, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and China, with voyage times ranging from 20 to 30 days from the date of shipment. The majority of acetone imported into India is from Thailand, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and China, with voyage times ranging from 20 to 30 days from the date of shipment. The proposed change is aimed at capturing the bulk of this spot trading activity.

The proposed changes would affect the price assessments under the following codes:

Description Code MAvg
Phenol CFR India Weekly AAVAS04 AAVAS03
Acetone CFR India Weekly AAVAT04 AAVAT03

The affected assessments are published in the Solventswire and on Platts Petrochemical Alert Pages: PC0241, PC0242, PC0243, PC0380, PC0446, PC0447 and PC0450.
