Buying in Vietnam switched to wider coils following antidumping duties
Platts continues to monitor trade flow changes
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, would like to clarify the methodology for its steel hot-rolled coil CFR Southeast Asia SS400 assessment (SB01142), in light of Vietnam's recent antidumping duties on Chinese imports.
Platts assessment specifications reflect 3 mm thickness and 1,200-1,500 mm width for imports to Vietnam. The duties apply to coils with thickness between 1.2 mm and 25.4 mm and widths not exceeding 1,880 mm effective July 6, 2025 for five years.
Following the implementation of the duties, and with China being a major global supplier of SS400 grade coil, Platts has observed the trade flow having shifted to material of 1,900-2,000 mm width, on which the duties do not apply.
Platts clarifies that such material is being considered and normalized for the assessment, using relevant price spreads reported by market participants.
Platts continues to monitor the trade flow for any further changes.
