Subscriber note: Platts to discontinue Europe, Africa MDO assessments

Following industry feedback, Platts confirms that, with effect from September 2, 2013, it will discontinue monthly marine diesel oil bunker fuel assessments across Europe and Africa. Platts will continue to assess monthly marine gasoil in all affected locations. Platts has been assessing MDO for several ports in the EMEA region since 1986. Since that time, demand for MDO has generally been replaced by demand for marine gasoil, or other similar fuels. MDO typically now accounts for less than 1% of bunker fuel supplied at major ports in the EMEA region. These monthly assessments are currently published on Platts Global Alert, Platts Monthly Bunkerwire and in the Platts price assessment database. For a complete list of all affected assessments, please see the table below.

These suspensions follow similar updates to Platts coverage in the Americas, where Platts has previously announced that it will suspend MDO assessments on January 2, 2013. In Asia and the Middle East, Platts has previously announced plans to suspend most MDO assessments on February 1, 2013. MGO assessments have been launched or maintained for all affected ports.
