Following market feedback, S&P Global Platts has decided to define the location basis of its Southern European domestic flat steel assessments and indices as ex-works Italy, effective October 1, 2020.
Platts originally proposed the change on July 14 and a relevant subscriber note can be found here: https://www.spglobal.com/platts/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/071420-platts-proposes-to-define-s-european-flat-steel-assessments-and-indices-as-ex-works-italy.
Italy is the biggest producer and consumer of flat steel in Southern Europe, and Platts has observed an increased importance of the Italian flat steel market as a driver for the overall region.
Prices from other Southern European regions may be reflected in the assessments and indices after normalization.
The change would involve renaming of the existing assessments and indices as follows:
Current description
Proposed description
Code
Platts TSI South European HRC EXW S.EU
HRC EXW Italy
SB01152
Platts TSI South European CRC EXW S.EU
CRC EXW Italy
SB01091
Platts TSI South European HDG EXW S.EU
HDG EXW Italy
SB01126
Platts TSI South European Plate EXW S.EU
Plate EXW Italy
SB01185
The description and location basis of all associated conversions and averages will be changed accordingly.
The affected assessments are published on the fixed pages PMA/STL 1200, PMA/STL 1263, PMA/STL 1243 of the Platts real-time service, on Platts Market Center, in the Platts price database and in the Steel Business Briefing.
