August 01, 2025
Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has launched two weekly Atlantic period Time Charter Equivalent, or TCE, assessments, effective Aug. 1, 2025.
These include a short-term assessment for the rental of a vessel for a duration of 4-6 months and a long-term assessment for 12-15 months. By launching these assessments, Platts aims to provide more comprehensive insights into the underlying factors driving the market beyond the spot curve.
Platts initially proposed the above assessments on June 16 in a subscriber note here.
Short-term rates capture immediate supply-demand dynamics, while long-term rates reflect charterers' confidence or caution regarding market trends, commodity flows, and geopolitical risks. Additionally, period rates can signal shifts in risk appetite; a rise in long-term interest may suggest concerns about future rate volatility, while discounted long-term deals from owners could indicate a bearish outlook for the market.
The specifications for both assessments will be:
| Specifications | |
| Age | Maximum 15 years |
| Size | 82,000 dwt |
| Daily Bunker Consumption | 23.5 mt/d at 12.5k ballast; 11.5k laden |
| Delivery | Gibraltar |
| Time stamp | 16:30 London timestamp |
The proposed assessments are:
| Assessment Name | Symbol Code | Period | Delivery | Redelivery |
Atlantic Panamax Short-term Period TCE $/day Wkly | APXSP00 | 4-6 months | Gibraltar | Worldwide |
Atlantic Panamax Long-term Period TCE $/day Wkly | APXLP00 | 12-15 months | Gibraltar | Worldwide |
These assessments will follow the London publishing schedule and be published in Platts Dry Freight Wire , Dry Freight Wire Monthly, and fixed pages PGT3970, PGT3971, SHP0612, SHP0613.
