In response to changes in the Americas bunker fuel markets, Platts proposes to launch marine gasoil assessments for major ports in the US and Canada with effect from September 3, 2012. At the same time, Platts is requesting comments on the possible suspension of existing marine diesel assessments effective January 2, 2013, following a notable reduction in the available supply and trade of the fuel. Platts' new marine gasoil assessments would reflect typical standards as defined by the International Organization for Standardization in document ISO 8217:2005. New ISO standards issued in 2010 have not yet become commonly reflected in most bunker supplies around the world. Platts continues to review traded specifications. The new assessments will be on both a delivered and an ex-wharf basis for the following ports: New York, Philadelphia, Montreal, Charleston, Norfolk, Houston, New Orleans, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland and Vancouver. Additionally, Platts will launch an assessment on an ex-wharf basis only for Savannah. Platts will publish new ex-wharf assessments on Platts Global Alert page 862, and delivered assessments on Platts Global Alert page 860. All assessments will appear in Bunkerwire and Platts Market Data. Please send questions and comments by August 10 to americas_products@platts.com and pricegroup@platts.com.
