In response to market demand, Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has launched a daily battery grade manganese sulfate DDP China assessment in Yuan/mt and an accompanying conversion to $/mt, effective July 18, 2022.
Platts has observed growing demand for manganese sulfate in battery manufacturing, which will play a critical role in energy dense electric vehicles. Market feedback is that the publication of an assessment for battery grade manganese sulfate would bring transparency and improve understanding to market operations, especially as there has not been comprehensive coverage of manganese sulfate relative to other battery metals so far.
The new assessment reflects the spot market value of battery grade manganese sulfate at 1630 Singapore time. The assessment considers market information reported to Platts and published throughout the day, including firm bids and offers, transactions and indicative values, as well as any other data deemed relevant to the assessment process. Full description of the Platts assessments methodology and data hierarchy can be found here: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/plattscontent/_assets/_files/en/our-methodology/methodology-specifications/platts-assessments-methodology-guide.pdf
The assessment has the following specifications and terms:
Quality: Minimum 32% manganese content
Incoterm: Delivered Duty Paid
Location: China
Volume: Minimum one truckload
Dimensions: Powder packed in bags
Timing: Delivery within 14 days
Payment Terms: Cash or letter of credit
All origins of manganese sulfate meeting these specifications will be considered in the assessment, and other grades may be normalized back to Platts standards. The assessments are published on Platts Nonferrous Metals Alert, Platts Metals Daily, Platts Dimensions Pro, Platts Market Center, and in the Platts price database.
Following the launch of the manganese sulfate assessment, all battery metals assessments have been moved to a single page on Platts alerts services for easier comparison. Effective July 18, 2022, the full global battery metals assessment suite can be found on pages PMA 8888 and MTL 8888. Consequently, pages PMA 8887, MTL 8887, PMA 8890 and MTL 8890 have been discontinued, also effective July 18, 2022.
