SUBSCRIBER NOTE: Platts to change CFR Peru assessment to CFR West Coast S America

Following a period of feedback after a formal proposal published June 13, 2016, as well as a previous public consultation and review period, S&P Global Platts has decided to change the naming convention of spot import polymer assessments to South America's Pacific Coast from CFR Peru to CFR West Coast South America (WCSA) effective August 1.

The change will broaden the area of coverage to include main ports in Chile (Valparaiso, San Antonio, others) Colombia (Buenaventura) and Ecuador (Guayaquil), in addition to Peru's Callao. Currently, CFR Peru assessments include only Callao as a destination port.

Market feedback suggests CFR West Coast South America is a widely used and accepted term to refer to the region for the purpose of market transactions, and that little to no difference exists between the above-mentioned destinations.

Platts plans to change the HDPE Film (AASVM00), HDPE blowmolding (AASVL00), HDPE Injection (AASVK00), LDPE G-P (AASVI00), LLDPE Butene (AASVJ00), PP homopolymer (AASVO00), PP copolymer (AASVN00), and PVC (AASVH00) assessments to reflect this name. Spot pricing would continue to be assessed at a Cost and Freight (CFR) basis.

The following monthly averages will be affected with the change: PVC CFR Peru (AASVH03), LDPE G-P CFR Peru (AASVI03), LLDPE Butene CFR Peru (AASVJ03), HDPE Injection CFR Peru (AASVK03), HDPE Blowmolding CFR Peru (AASVL03), HDPE Film CFR Peru (AASVM03), PP Homopolymer CFR Peru (AASVO03), and PP Copolymer CFR Peru (AASVN03).
