Platts clarifies methodology of hard coking coal FOB Australia assessment, met coal CFR India calculations

S&P Global Platts wishes to clarify the methodology of its FOB Australia hard coking coal assessment and CFR India metallurgical coal price calculations.

FOB AUSTRALIA HCC: This price is assessed mainly as a netback from the CFR China value, by subtracting the Platts Panamax spot freight rate from Hay Point, Australia, to Qingdao, China (CDBFA00), from the hard coking coal CFR China assessment (HCCCH00). In cases, where Platts observes divergence of the FOB Australia pricing information from the calculated CFR China netback value, Platts may prioritize FOB Australia inputs, provided they reflect sufficient price consistency and repeatability for multiple destinations. This assessment is also known as HCC 64 Mid Vol FOB Australia and is published under a daily code HCCAU00.

CFR INDIA: Platts CFR India metallurgical coal prices represent net forwards, calculated as a sum of respective FOB Australia assessments and Panamax dry bulk freight on the Australia-India route (CDBFAI0). The CFR India assessments concerned include HCC Peak Downs CFR India (HCCGI00), Premium Low Vol HCC CFR India (PLVHI00), Hard Coking Coal CFR India (HCCIN00), Low Vol PCI CFR India (MCLVI00), Mid-Tier PCI CFR India (MCVAI00) and Semi Soft CFR India (MCSSI00).
