Platts launches daily Asia MMA assessments for CFR China, CFR SEA

S&P Global Platts has launched two new daily Asia Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) assessments on a CFR basis into China and Southeast Asia on June 12, 2020, in light of market demand for greater transparency in the MTBE and acetone chains.

Platts first published the decision note on June 10, 2020 (http://plts.co/mzts30qOZC0).

The CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia assessments published in $/mt, and reflect spot cargo sizes of 500-1,000 mt for delivery 15-30 days forward from the date of publication. Platts may take into consideration price information gathered up to the close of the Market on Close assessment process at 4:30 pm Singapore time (0830 GMT).

The CFR China assessment reflects deliveries into Zhangjiagang in East China, while the CFR Southeast Asia assessment reflects cargoes for delivery into Map Ta Phut in Thailand. Bids, offers, and trades and price indications heard for delivery into other ports may be normalized to the basis ports.

Both the CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia assessments reflect MMA with a specific gravity 20°C/4°C 0.942 to 0.946, free acid content of 0.005% or less, moisture content (KF method) of 0.05% or less, monomer content of 99.8% or more, number of colors (APHA) at 5 or less, and free acids (methacrylic acid) at 0.005% or less.
