Platts to change location, volume specifications of FOB China wire rod assessment

Following a consultation period, Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will change the location and volume specifications of its FOB China wire rod assessment (SB01261), effective July 6, 2022.

The basis location will be revised to Bayuquan from Shanghai and volume specifications will be revised to 300-1,000 mt from the current minimum quantity of 3,000 mt, in reflection of current trade flows, spot data compiled by Platts, and after obtaining market feedback.

The assessment will be renamed Wire Rod Mesh Quality FOB China, from Wire Rod Mesh Quality China Export FOB Shanghai currently.

All other specifications will remain unchanged.

The changes were initially proposed May 18 in a subscriber note available here: https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/our-methodology/subscriber-notes/051822-platts-proposes-to-change-location-volume-specifications-of-fob-china-wire-rod-assessment

The weekly assessment, published Wednesdays, appears in Platts Steel Price Report, on Platts Steel Alert page 1215, on Platts Dimensions Pro and in Platts Market Data category SQ.
