SUBSCRIBER NOTE: No change to Colonial Pipeline jet fuel, heating oil assessments

Platts confirms there will be no changes to its current US jet fuel and heating oil assessments on Colonial Pipeline, following an announcement by Colonial this month that it will delay its plan to eliminate the shipment of high sulfur refined products on its pipeline to July 2021.

Platts opened a formal review of its Colonial Pipeline jet fuel and high sulfur heating oil assessments on October 14, 2016, after Colonial first announced its intention to stop shipping any products with a sulfur content of more than 500 ppm in January 2018. This would have affected the Platts 54 grade (jet), and 77 grade (high sulfur heating oil) assessments.

In an announcement on May 8, Colonial said it had recently completed a bid solicitation process for the purchase of high sulfur interface, the product mix between distillate grades on the pipeline, which will allow Colonial to keep shipping high sulfur refined products on its pipeline.

Colonial has said, however, the continuing decline of domestic high sulfur fuel markets remains a significant issue for its operations, and as such it plans to eliminate high sulfur product shipments on July 1, 2021. Platts will continue to monitor this situation, but has no plans to propose any changes in the short term. This could be altered in the event of any significant development in the interim period.
