S&P Global Platts will discontinue its daily CFR India West and CFR India East assessments for Indonesian thermal coal grade 3,800 kcal/kg GAR from August 3, 2020.
Platts first proposed this change in a subscriber note published April 29, 2020: http://plts.co/iZk730qCXPo
Platts understands that the Indian coal import market has seen a shift towards direct use of higher calorific coals, alongside blending of lower calorific coals.
This has led to a decline in imports of the 3,800 kcal/kg GAR grade, and a consequent drop in visible spot market information for this grade.
Platts will continue to publish CFR India West and CFR India East assessments for 5,500 kcal/kg NAR, 5,000 kcal/kg GAR and 4,200 kcal/kg GAR thermal coal grades.
The following assessments would be discontinued from August 3:
These assessments are published in Coal Trader International, on Global Coal Alert pages 410 and 425, and in the Platts price database under the codes above.
