S&P Global Platts is seeking industry feedback on a proposal to launch a new price assessment for Newcastle thermal coal based on the specification of 5,500 kcal/kg net-as-received, and maximum ash of 23% on an as-received basis.
The proposed assessment is named FOB Newcastle 5,500 NAR max 23% ash and would reflect trade in Australian thermal coal with a standard calorific value of 5,500 kcal/kg Net As Received [NAR] on a FOB basis and with a maximum ash content of 23%.
The FOB Newcastle price assessment will take into account thermal coal trades in the spot market for delivery in a 7-45 day forward window in a Capesize vessel of 130,000 mt and on a FOB basis.
Please provide feedback or submit questions by July 1, 2017, to PL_AsiaThermalCoal@spglobal.com with a copy to pricemethodology@spglobal.com.
