S&P Global Platts seeks market feedback on a proposal to change the name of its existing CIF Turkey assessment (CTCMT04) to CIF Med 6,000 kcal/kg NAR, to reflect thermal coal delivered into the whole of the Mediterranean by Panamax vessels.
Additionally, Platts is also proposing to launch a new assessment to reflect thermal coals, of the same specification, delivered into Mediterranean market on Handy and Supramax-sized vessels.
The assessments would be based on trades, bids and offers heard in the market as well as indications of value from market participants. The CIF Med Panamax assessment would continue the pricing history of the existing CIF Turkey assessment, with a 90-day delivery window.
Platts also proposes to change the basis port from Marmara to Iskenderun, Turkey and normalize freight appropriately. Sulfur content will also be normalized to 1%.
The CIF Med assessments would be published daily in Coal Trader International, weekly in Coal Trader, and on Global Coal Alert pages 430 and 450 and Market Data category CI from June.
Platts invites comments and questions by May 17, 2019 to coal@spglobal.com with a copy to pricegroup@spglobal.com.
For written comments, please provide a clear indication if comments are not intended for publication by Platts for public viewing. Platts will consider all comments received and will make comments not marked as confidential available upon request.
