Platts launches domestic US Chicken Jumbo Breast price assessment, May 1

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has launched a daily price assessment for Chicken Jumbo Breast, Ex-works US, effective May 1.

Jumbo chicken breasts account for a significant share of the US domestically traded chicken market, with the largest concentration of chicken broiler facilities located in the Southeast states. This new assessment complements Platts existing "field to fork" coverage of US protein and animal feed, which includes the US Chicken Marker, while bringing increased transparency to the global chicken market.

The domestic US Chicken Assessment -- Chicken Jumbo Breast, EXW US -- reflects the value of fresh jumbo boneless skinless chicken breast, tender out, from birds with a live weight of above 7.75 lbs. The assessment reflects product from fresh broiler facilities in the US Southeast, defined as facilities in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi and Texas.

The daily assessment reflects a minimum value of one truckload, defined as 40,000 lbs of product.

Platts assesses prices reflecting product loading on an ex-works basis, within seven days from the date of publication.

Chicken Jumbo Breast, EXW US is published in US dollars per lb under the symbol UCFBS00. A monthly average will be published against the symbol UCFBS03. These assessments will appear on the fixed pages PA0216, in Platts Protein Daily, and on Platts Connect.

The assessment is based on bids, offers, trades and market activity reported to Platts before 13:30 Houston time and reflects the prevailing market value at the time of close. The assessment will follow the Platts US publishing calendar.

• Quality: Fresh Jumbo Boneless Skinless Chicken breast, Tender out, from birds with live weight above 7.75 lbs
• Quantity: Minimum 1 Truckload, 40,000 lbs of product
• Basis and Location: Ex-works, US Southeast
• Timing: Loading within seven days from date of publication
• Payment terms: Cash against documents
• Unit of assessment: US dollars per lb and a conversion to $/mt
• Market Close: 13:30 Houston
