S&P Global Platts proposes to discontinue two SBB Steel Tube and Pipe Price Trackers: Tube & Pipe Price Tracker World (SBIAY00) and Tube & Pipe Price Tracker North America (SBIAP00).
The proposed discontinuation would be effective July 9, 2021.
These steel price trackers are calculated using fixed weightings of various price assessments published by Platts.
Since their launch, world steel trade flows have changed considerably, as have world output balances.
More recently and due to changes in tariffs and duties designed to protect local markets against imports, regional steel pricing has differed more markedly than in previous years.
In the event of a discontinuation of these Tube and Pipe Price trackers, Platts would continue to publish its steel mill economics spreads in the publications that housed these steel price trackers, including Steel Price Report.
The SME spreads cover various regions, and demonstrate the margins available to steel producers for the production of various finished steels when using different raw material inputs.
Platts welcomes feedback on the proposed changes and all other aspects of its price methodology in the US.
Please submit any feedback, comments or questions about this proposal to pl_americas_metals@spglobal.com and pricegroup@spglobal.com by April 29.
For written comments, please provide a clear indication if comments are not intended for publication by Platts for public viewing.
Platts will consider all comments received and will make comments not marked as confidential available upon request.
