S&P Global Platts decreases frequency of European steel assessments

S&P Global Platts has decreased the frequency of its HRC and CRC FOB Black Sea assessments from daily to weekly and also decreased the frequency of its Shredded Scrap South Europe assessment from weekly to monthly.

Platts also changed the weekly assessment dates from Friday to Wednesday for its Black Sea Slab and Medium Sections DDP Europe assessments. The changes came into effect on March 6, 2019.

Platts has engaged with market participants on this since December 18 and made these changes as a result of changing market dynamics involving the respective products and having received positive feedback on the initial proposal.

Details of the assessments that changed frequency from daily to weekly are as follows:

  • HRC FOB Black Sea, code: STHRB00
  • CRC FOB Black Sea, code: STRRB00

The last daily assessment was Thursday, February 28. Platts assesses the weekly assessments every Wednesday, since March 6, 2019.

Details of the assessment that changed frequency from weekly to monthly is as follows:

  • Shredded Scrap S. Europe, code: SB01229

The last weekly assessment was on Friday, February 22. Platts assesses the new monthly assessments on the 10th of every month or the closest working day to the 10th, since Monday, March 11.

Details of the assessments that changed the assessment day from Friday to Wednesday are as follows:

  • Slab FOB Black Sea, code: SB01233
  • Medium Sections DDP Europe, code: SB01160

The last weekly assessment to be made on a Friday was on Friday, March 1. The new weekly Wednesday assessment started on March 6.
