Platts proposes discontinuation of FOB Hampton Roads thermal coal assessment

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, proposes to discontinue its FOB Hampton Roads 6,000 kcal/kg NAR (CUAEA04) and associated assessments effective June 14.

The proposal is due to declining production and spot trading for this grade exported from the Atlantic East Coast of the US, alongside market feedback.

The FOB Hampton Roads 6,000 kcal/kg NAR (CUAEA04) assessment and inputs are published in Platts Coal Trader, Platts Coal Trader International, Fixed Pages GCN0360, CA2009, and ET2009, as well as under the following symbols:

FOB Hampton Roads 6000 kcal/kg NAR: CUAEA04, CUAEA03 (Mavg), CUAEA05 (Qavg)

Thermal Coal FOB CAPP Rail (CSX) 12500 Btu/lb to kcal/kg: CTCAP00

Rail Freight CAPP-Norfolk Transportation Cost $/st: CTCCA00

Norfolk Terminal Loading Transportation Cost $/st: CTLNO00

The discontinuation will not impact the US East Coast thermal coal assessments FOB Baltimore 6,000 kcal/kg NAR (CUADA04) and FOB Baltimore 6,900 kcal/kg NAR (CUATB04).

However, Platts is also seeking feedback on pricing and trends in the FOB Baltimore market.
