Following market feedback since January 3, 2019, S&P Global Platts has launched brand assessments for 57% Fe Yandi iron ore fines CFR Qingdao on March 1, 2019.
Platts assesses the fixed and floating price brand assessments based on transactional information collected throughout the day from active market participants across the supply chain.
The decision to launch this assessment came on the back of regular and increasing demand from market participants for 57% Fe Yandi Iron Ore Fines in the spot market.
Platts assesses the brands timestamped to 5:30 pm Singapore/Beijing time on a daily basis. Platts takes into account the typical specifications of the brand in determining these assessments and will make these available upon request.
MONTHLY ROLL: The floating price brand assessments is calculated from the fixed price assessments, using the swaps forward curve.
Platts uses the following mechanism for the floating price assessments: the monthly swap value used as the basis of the floating price assessments, which rolls on the first business day of the month. The swap value used will therefore always be M+1.
Here is an example of how this works in practice: The date is April 7, 2019. Platts will use the May swap assessment value as the basis of the floating price brand differentials. On May 1, 2019, Platts will start to use the June swap value as the basis of the floating price brand differentials.
These assessments are published on Platts Metals Alert page 1105 and in Steel Market Daily. The 57% Fe Yandi fines assessments carry the codes IOYFA00 for daily fixed price and IOYFB00 for daily floating price, as well as IOYFA03 for monthly average fixed price and IOYFB03 for monthly average floating price.
